WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.

ARKLE'S BAY,

The Arkle's Bay Women's Institute held its first monthly meeting this week. The president, Mrs. McGill, gave a very interesting talk on the ambitions and work of institutes generally. This was followed by a demonstration by Mrs. T. G. Wobster, which was much appreciated. A competition arranged by Miss Hawken was won by Mrs. McGill. Afternoon tea, dispensed by the hostesses, Mrs. Hair and Mrs. Osmond, terminated a very pleasant afternoon. OPOTIKI. At a special meeting of the Opot.iki Women's Institute, held recently, a very interesting and instructive address was given by Miss Stops, of England. In the Old Country women's institutes are interesting themselves in tho revival of the ancient handicrafts, and Miss Stops had with her a largo collection of beautiful work done by members at Home. At tho close of tho address a hearty vote of thanks was passed to Miss Stops. 'Die hostesses for the evening were ills. Crawford, Mrs. Talbot, Mrs. Burton, Mrs. Dick and Mrs. S. White. WAIOTAIII. In order to welcome Miss A. M. Stops, who has been touring New Zealand in the interests of the Women's Institutes, a special meeting was held by tho Wuiotalu Women's Institute recently. Great interest was displayed in the home handicrafts, which were brought by Miss Stops from tho National Federation in London, and her brief address was also much appreciated.
