BRITISH DYESTUFFS.
CONTINUANCE OF THE ACT. MOTION LOST IN COMMONS. LONDON. Dec. 4. In the House of Commons an amendment by Sir Philip Cunliffe-Lister (who was President of the Board of Trade in the last Conservative Government) to continue the Dyestuffs Act until 1936 was defeated by 255 votes to 225. Six Liberals, including Sir John Simon, voted against the Government. Several members of the left wing of the Labour Party did not vote.
The President of the Board of Trade, Mr. W. Graham, announced in the House of Commons on November 19 that the Government had decided that as the object of the Dyestuffs Act had been attained it would lapse on January 15.
