WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.
ALBANY. Mrs. Dickson presided over tho annual meeting of the institute. The "report and balance-sheet were read and adopted and tho following officers and committee elected Mrs. Treby, president; committee, Mesdames Broadbent, B. Dickson, Kenyon, Powell, Richards, Schofield. Smith, Stone, Treby, Misses Hooten and Potts. A committee comprising Mesdames Broadbent, Hunt, Collins, Gardner and Stone is arranging for a break-ing-up treat for the school children. Mrs. Jones gave much-enjoyed recitations. Toa was served by Mesdames Kenyon, Gardiner, Treby, Schofield and Stone. Mesdames Dickson, Hunt, Schofield and Hawkins won the penny competition.
NEW LYNN. The final meeting for the year of the New Lynn Women's Institute was held on Monday. There was a large attendance of members. The annual report and balance-sheet were read and adopted, 'lhe following were elected members of the committeo for the incoming year:—Mrs. E. Wood, president; Mesdamcs Culpitt,. Dallamore, C. Gardner, Graves, Howson, Lawson, McGillivrfly,' Parry, Stihvcll and Miss Lewis. A special vote of thanks was accorded to Mrs. Howson, the first president of this institute. A liberal donation was given to the funds for a dental clinic in New Lynn. Miss Lewis gave a most interesting glove making demonstration. Musical items were contributed by Mesdamcs Parry, Cloments, Parris, Miss Valerie Howson and Master Bob Growes. The retiring president (Mrs. Howson) introduced and welcomed the new president,; Mrs. E. Wood, to the chair, after which Mrs. Ilowson entertained tho members at afternoon tea.
RANGIRIRI AND TE IvAUWHATA. A meeting of tho Rangiriri and Te Kauwhata Institute was held in the To Kauwhata Hall recently. Tho president, Mrs. Helen Try, gave a short address on procedure. Much interest was also shown when Mrs. T. E. Tocker iced the top tier of a presentation cake as a demonstration of cake icing. A demonstration was also given of a marling machine at work. The hostesses wero Mcsdames Andrews, llatfeeld and Bower.
WHAKATANE. A meeting of the institute was held in the garden of Mrs. Ilawken, Mrs. Buddie presiding. Thero were 50 members present, and a very enjoyable time was spent on tho beautiful lawns. The visitors were entertained with games and competitions, prizes being won by Mrs. A. G. Clarke for miniature golf, Miss A. Prideaux for croquet, and Mrs.. McMiken for a memory test. Afternoon tea was dispensed by the committee and others, and at the close of the afternoon a very hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr. and Mrs. Ilawken for their' kind invitation.
