A TRAGIC ERROR.
NINETEEN CHILDREN DEAD. TREATMENT IN HOSPITAL. MONTREAL. Nov. 17. A message from Mcdellin, Colombia, 150 miles north-west of the. capital, Bogota, says 19 children have died, and 30 others are, seriously ill, owing to an alleged mistake ,in a laboratory in tho city's free medical institution, called Casas Cunas. The deaths followed two successful treatments of a group of poor children. On the third visit they received anti-diph-theria vaccine which had been erroneously inoculated with diphtheria germs.
Tho townspeople were so enraged that a riotous crowd started to attack tho doctors. and the police had to hasten to protect, them.
All the doctors in the city are working desperately to save those of the children who are still alive. ,
Medellin, the capital of (lie Department of Antioquia, has about 120,000 inhabitants. Tt has many large factories, and has been termed "the Manchester of .Colombia."
