YOUNG NEW HEAVY-WEIGHT.

JOHN PETTIFER'S VICTORY

John Pcttifer, who has been nicknamed " the British Camera," a Oft. 6in. heavyweight boxer, last evening defeated Tom Berry, ex-cruiser-weight champion, who retired in the third round after having been knocked down for a short count.

Alf Martcini outpointed Leo Wax in 15 rounds.

Writing in the Daily Mail recently a special correspondent, .Mr. Bernard Murphy, himself a boxer, who is engaged in a search for a British boxing champion, said : " A hug, boxing glove has just flattened my nose, brought tears to my eyes and raised beyond wildest hopes mv faith in the future of British ringcraft. I have just bad two rounds with big John Pettifer, a 17st. giant of 21, who is determined to knock out Camera and gain the world's heavy-weight championship for England. "I'ettifor, who is 6ft. bin. and built on (he lines of a Colossus, was a dishwasher in a London hotel a few months ago, but was discovered by a boxing manager who intends to take him to America to have a crack at Camera. The Italian is welcome to liirn."

After describing his two rounds with " Big John" the writer said that afterwards the would-be conqueror of Camera remarked : " I am almost as big as lie is, and when I have learned how to do it I am going to meet Camera, I hope—and show him that British boxing is not, dead yet. I havo fallen in love with boxing. Why. Oiilv a short while back T was washing dishes. Now I am getting as fit as a tiger, training hard every day. T have an°P2-inch reach, and my chest and arms are nrarly as big as Camera's inst you come back when I get really going."
