SHARP RUE IN PRICE.

REASSURANCE BY BANKS. (Received November 18, 5.5 p.m.) WINNIPEG, Nov. 17. On the [Winnipeg wheat market to-day thcro was a sharp recovery from Saturday's prices, which readied the lowest levels ever recorded. Wheat advanced 3 t(* 3 7-8 cents a bushel. Trade was active and at the close exceptionally firm. November delivery closed at 63 3-8 cents a bushel, December at 62| cents, May al 67J- cents, July at 69 1-8 cents. The main factor in the recovery was the reassuring announcement from the lending banks that the wheat pools would not be forced to dump supplies on the market. f; A message from Toronto says the Premiers of Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta consulted with banking interests to-day about the wheat price situation. It was stated that successful interviews had been held. They had to save the economic structure of Western Canada, said Mr. J. Bracken, Premier of Manitoba. COMPLAINT OF SHIPMENT. PRESENCE OF INSECTICIDE. OTTAWA, Nov. 17. The Dominion Grain Commission, suspecting that Canadian grain consigned to the British Isles had been tampered with, lias ordered an investigation at Montreal. British millers complain that the wheat was found to contain insecticide. A preliminary investigation indicates that the chemical is not used in Canada. STABILISATION OF PRICE. OPERATIONS IN AMERICA. (Received November 18, 5.5 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Nov. 17. The chairman of the United States Farm Board, Mr. A. LONDON PRICES HIGHER. NEW YORK QUOTATIONS. LONDON, Nov. 17. On the Stock Exchange to-day Australian stocks hardened. Dealings in Commonwealth 5 per cents, ranged from £BS to £B7 10s, in 6 per cents, from £95 to £97 10s. A message from New York says there were sales on the Stock Exchange to-day of Commonwealth 5 per cents., 1955, at 78, of 1957 at 77|, of per cents, at 12*. For New South Wales stocks there was no sale. Queensland 6 per cents, sold at 85J, an d ? P er cents, at 95£.
