METHODIST SYNOD.

OPENING OF SESSION. THEOLOGICAL COLLEGE WORK. Tho annual Methodist Synod of the Auckland district was commenced in the Pitt Street Methodist Church yesterday. The morning and afternoon were occupied with a ministerial session and a social was held in the e\ening to welcome the visiting clergymen. The Rev. E. Drake prosided over the ministerial session.

Satisfactory reports having been received on their circuit work it was decided to recommend the Revs. X. P. Lavsen, O. I. Laurenson, T. M. Raynor, A. W. Silvester and H. V. Utting to the next Methodist Conference, for ordination to the full ministry. The Revs. W. J. Court and J. W. Parker were examined orally and recommended for a, pass in their year as probationers. Messrs. J. John, A. ,T. Johnston, H. C. Matthews and H. Tozer, who presented themselves as candidates for the ministry, were recommended for admission to the Trinity Theological College. A report on the year's work at Trinity College was presented by tho principal, the Rev. Dr. C. H. Laws, who stated attention had been given to providing for the students experience in practical church work. Under proper supervision they had taken a full share in Sunday school and young people's work at the Collegiate Church. Sixteen men were in residence at the hostel. Correspondence classes for candidates had been carried on by the Rev. W. G. Slade, who would be succeeded next year by tho Rev. W. T. Blight. The following were recommended to bo received as ministers on probation: —Messrs. G. R. Bowden, T. H. Carr. W E. Moore, H. \V- Payne, D. 0. Williams and A. Carr. Messrs. R. Coombridce and E. J. Clark had passed tho examination for home missionaries. It was decided to recommend to the incoming chairman of the district that the North Auckland ministers arid home missionaries should hold the May synod in their own area. The full session of the synod will open this morning at. 9.30, when Holy Communion will be celebrated by Mr. Drake A pre-communion address will be given by the Rov. C. R. Jordan. Later Messrs. D. Hickman, R. Grice and W. J. Henderson, home missionaries, will be received into full ministerial status. The business of the session will commence at 10 30 a.m. The synod will conclude to-morrow evening. SOUTH' AUCKLAND DISTRICT. MEETING AT HAMILTON. [BY TELEGFAFH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. 1 HAMILTON. Tuesday. The annual synod of the South Auckland district of the Metnodist Church commenced in Hamilton to-day, the chairman of the district, the Rev. W A. Burley. presiding over an attendance of 25. The ministerial committee examined several candidates, who were recommended to tho forthcoming conference for ordination. The committee also transacted forma] business. An inspirational meeting, at which the Rev. F. G. Brown, of Morrinsville, and Sister Rita, of Te Kuiti, gave addresses, I was held this evening.
