HUGE CASH PRIZES. TICKETS IN NEW ZEALAND. SCHEME TO HELP HOSPITALS. A number of tickets in the grc.it Irish Free State, sweepstake, in aid of hospitals, has been sold in New Zealand and many Aucklanders aro eagerly looking forward to the result of tho draw, which was to have been made at the Mansion House, Dublin, yesterday. It, was originally stated the first prize would probably be, £50,000, but tho total received has so exceeded the sum aimed at that it is now expected tho first, prize will bo about £185,000. Other prizes will be in proportion. Tho sweepstake, which is know officially as tho Irish Free State Hospitals Subscription Fund, is being conducted and managed by an influential committee, headed by Viscount Powerscourt, for the purpose of aiding voluntary institutions fn the, Free State affording freo medical and surgical treatment. It is to bo based on the horses entered for the Manchester November Handicap, to bo run at Manchester on November 22. Tho conditions provided for the drawing to he made in public and under tho supervision of the Chief Commissioner of Police, General O'Duffy. After the committee has dedi'.cted 20 per cent, of tho total for hospital charities, payment of expenses and commission for sale of tickets, the whole of the balance of moneys teceived will be distributed as prize money. . It was provided that on tho basis of £IOO,OOO being available for distribution the prizes would be: First, £50,000; second, £20,000; third, £IO,OOO. Tho drawers of other starters were to divide £12,000, and of non-starters, £6OOO. Tho remaining £2OOO was to be divided among tho sellers of tho winning tickets. The prizes were to vary in proportion as the amount of £IOO,OOO for distribution was exceeded or not reached, but in any event the sum of £25,000 was guaranteed as a minimuui and deposited at the Bank of Ireland. It, has now been announced that the prize money has reached the remarkable figure of £400.000 and that the first prize is expected to be £185.000, the second £BO,OOO, and tho third £42,000. Tickets in the sweepstake were 10s each.
