THE FARMERS' UNION.

WORK OF DAIRY BOARD.

CHANGE IN FORM URGED

A suggestion that the Dairy Produce Board should be abolished was made by Mr. J. H. Furness at a meeting of the Auckland provincial branch of the Farmers' Union last evening. It was stated by Mr. W. H. Allen that the board was costing thousands of pounds a year and was of very little use. The National Dairy Association could do all the work the board did. Mr. F. Colbeck said it would be a mistake (o do away with the board as many legislative privileges would be lost. "It, is the personnel of the board we are against, not the board itself," remarked Mr. E. L. Walker. After considerable discussion it was unanimously decided 1o recommend that Government, nominees and commercial members should be removed from the board. It was felt that if this were done greater efficiency would be attained and expenses would be reduced.

it, was decided to refer to the Dominion conference a recommendation that hospitals should bo maintained and controlled by the State, thus relieving the burden now placed on lands. The secretary, Mr. A. E. Robinson, reported that he had written to the Hon. A J. ' Stallworthy, Minister of Health, asking hirn to consider the factor of native populations in hospital districts as partially governing the ratio of Government subsidy "to hospital boards, so that districts having large numbers of native patients should be granted an increased subsidy.
