WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.
GORDONTON. The Gordonton branch of the Women's Institute held its November meeting at Woodlands, tho homo of the president, Mrs. D. Riddell. After business had been dealt with Miss Ziman spoke upon " Palestine" and Miss M. Geary gave a demonstration of pewter work. Mrs. Thompson (Te Hoc), gave an exhibition of marquetrio and Mrs. Twining (Te Hoe), an interesting demonstration of needlework. Afternoon tea was served on the lawn. Hostesses for the day were Mrs. Mayall and the Misses Tennant and F. Mayall.
MANAWAHE. '1 ho Manawahe Women's Institute met. recently, when Miss MrEhveo, delegate to the Dominion conference, read a very interesting report on tlio meeting in Wellington. Mrs, Macpherson presented a report, on the group meeting of institutes held at Whnkatano last week.
A competition for the best-dressed doll for tlio children's Christmas treo produced many beautifully-frocked entries, the winner being Mrs. Seabourne. Tea concluded a very pleasant meeting. The hostesses were Airs. W. Rimmer, Mrs. W. Anderson and Miss K. Kendall. OTA KIR I. A meeting of the Otakiri Women's Institute was held recently, Mrs. Heir presiding. Mrs. Norton and Mrs. Cannell gave doinonstralions of cake icing. Mrs. Watson read two addresses, one by Mr. J. 11. Howoll on "The l'ower of Education on National Life in Denmark," and the other Lord Bledisloe's speech on "Women's Institutes" at the conference in Wellington. The competition, "Something new from something old," was won by Mrs. Tucker. Tea was served by Mesdamcs Boyd, Carter and Miss Carter. POUT ALBERT. An interesting leeturette on the "Pirates of Penzance" (Gilbert and Sullivan) was given by Mrs. Broad, at a meeting of tlio Port Albert Women's Institute. Gramophone illustrations added to tlio interest of her talk. A song by Mrs. Becroft was also appreciated. The hostesses were I\lrs. Thompson and Mrs. Winter. WAIMANA AND NUKUHOU. The Wajmann and Nukuhou Institute met recently, Mrs. Wyldo presiding over an attendance which included members of the Whakatane. Waiotahi and Opotiki Institutes. At the conclusion of business and an address by Mrs. Wettenhall, a varied programme was given. Sonsr.s were sung by Mrs. Davis, a one-act play was presented by Mrs. Smalley and Mrs. Savage. an amusing sketch by Mrs. Savage and Airs. Debreceny. and a recitation by Ihe latter, Community singing was followed by two competitions, both of which were won by Mrs. Burrett. All the members of the Home Institute were hostesses.
