VISITING CRICKETERS.

WEST INDIES PLAYERS. BRIEF STAY IN AUCKLAND. THE TOUR IN AUSTRALIA. The West Indies cricket team which is touring Australia this season arrived in Auckland by the Limited express yesterday morning and sailed by the Ulimaroa for Sydney. The team was met by Mr. E. E. Nalder, chairman of the management committee of the Auckland Cricket Association, Mr. N. H. Hockin, secretary, and Mr. J. 11. Watts, treasurer. •Mr. S. G. Smith, the veteran Auckland cricketer who spent 26 years in tho West Indies, also met the visiting team.

Members of the team stated they would very much have liked to have spent more time in New Zealand and played several matches. They had not during the short time in tho Wellington match seen enough of tho players to ex press a considered opinion of their capabilities. The wicket in Wellington was very slow, but tho team was looking forward to performing with success in Australia. Eleven members of tho sixteen players are dark-skinned. The manager, Mr. R. 11. Mallett, has had years of experience in cricket administration, having served on the M.C.C. committee for five years, besides on the West Indian Board of Control. Mr. Mallett intends to spend some time in New Zealand on his way homo with the team. He has relations in the Dominion and a son-in-law is farming at Walton.
