Twelve miners were killed and 2 wounded in battles with the police, wh have been reinforced by Republicai Guards. Hie Cerro de Pasco Company orderei its 350 employees, most of whom ar British, to leave immediately. Labour troubles caused the riots. Tli miners held demonstrations, whereupoi tho Labour leaders seized two Brilisl mine employees. The miners thieatcnei to strike unless these men were releasee and this was done. Tho situation was believed to be calme when news of fresh riots was rcccivec and tho evacuation of tlio area, wa: ordered. Tho Confederation of Workers at Liim called a strike as a protest against "tho insolvent attitude of the Britisl Imperialistic firm of Duncan Fox anc Company in conflict with the labourer! of the Union Textile Factory." Tho newspaper Comcrcio says the general strike threat must bo regardec as a manifestation of a revolutionary attitude, which cannot be condoned in anj way.
