JHE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE. (BANKING SECTION BRIGHTER. A quiet day was experienced 011 the 'Auckland >°tock Exchange yesterday, when the volume of business was much below normal. Interest in Government investments remained unchanged, inquiry covering only a limited range. Sellers for tho most''part kept oft tho market. The tone of tho banking section was a little brighter, but tho business done was negligible, Iho only deal recorded being ii transaction in Commercials of Australia at the current price, 17s 2d. Offers in several other instances wero raised. Australasias wore wanted 3s dearer at '£lo 19s,' sellers withholding. Nationals of New Zcnlanu, New South "Wales and Unions also attracted slightly firmer inquiry, without any sales being made. Insurance i/sues wero fairly steady. For (Jueenlands buyers raised their limits la 6d to 'lis 6J. Sellers wero unchanged at 60s. Apart from a firmer tendency in Golds-brough-Morts the loan and agency group was lifeless. Coals wcro unchanged. In gas an advanco of 2d to 23s 6d in offers for Auelflamls attracted a selling quotation of 245. In breweries offers for New Zealands- receded a shade to 45s 3d, sellers moving lfip 3d to 4bs 6(1. Headway was made by several stocks in general investments. A rise of 6d to 33s was registered in offers for British Tobaccos, which were available at 35s 9d. Colonial Sugars firmed ss, buyers offerin.; '£33 15s after sellers had raised their price to &35 ss. Tho only business recorded in tho section was in Wilsons Cements, which changed hands unaltered ufc 40s, at which figure further supplies wero available. Iu mining thero was firmer interest . in King Solomons, offers for which appreciated 2d to 9jd. Sellers asked Is. W aihis wero unaltered. Mount Lyells wero dona again at 19s 9d without satisfying the"demand. Sellers wanted 20s for more.
