MERCURY BAY FISHING.

GOOD SEASON EXPECTED. MR. ZANE GREY'S PLANS. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] THAMES, Friday. Regarding Mr. Zano Grey's visit to Mercury Bay in 1931, as soon as it was known that it was impossible for Mr. Grey to use bis former camp sito on Mercury Island, Mr, Chadban, Mr. Wells, and other residents of the Bay arranged for an ideal site on the property of a settler on the mainland, almost opposite Mercury Island. Unfortunately ' tJie charts and othe# particulars of the new site, which were forwarded to Mr. Grey, were lost with the Tahiti, or it might have been possible for Mr. Grey to have spent this season here. Ihe difficulties that arose are specially unfortunate, as every indicatipn points to a splendid season for big fish. Schools of fish are already very plentiful on the grounds, and recently a reremai shark weighing 3601b., was caught by one of the local fishermen. Sharks of all kinds are unusually plentiful, and largo numbers of kingfish are also in evidence. Fishermen who know the Bay are predicting a very successful season. A silver eel was captured by a resident of Mercury Bay last week. This fish was about 7ft. long and pure silver in colour, witb a thickness of not more than 2in. The head was furnished with a bird-like beak, inside which were three rows of very small, sharp teeth. It is understood that specimens of this fish up to 14ft. long have been taken about the Bay.
