DEATH AT OPERATION.
WOMAN UNDER ANAESTHETIC. [BT TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] THAMES, Friday. The death occurred on Wednesday at tho Thames Hospital of Mrs. Ruth Mead, aged 40, wnfe of Mr. George Mead, a fisherman, of Mercury Bay, while she was under an anaesthetic. An inquest concerning her death was held yesterday before tho coroner, Mr. W. H. Lucas. Evidence was given by Dr. W. Sowerby that deceased was being operated upon, and that she collapsed while undei the anaesthetic. Everything possible was done to restore the patient, but unavailing^-. Corroborative evidence was given bv Dr. Vautier, the house surgeon, and Dr. ,T. Liggins detailed tho results of tho postmortem examination which he conducted It was found that deceased had been suffering from fatty degeneration of the heart. A verdict was returned in accordance with the medical evidence.
