WOMAN ASSAULTED.
FORMER BOARDER FINED. " Accused punched me and knocked me down," said Mr» Mary Elizabeth Stites in the Police Court yesterday, when Edward Tat rick Brogan was charged beforo Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., with assaulting the woman by striking her in the eye. Mr. Bryce Ilart, who represented accused, entered a plea of not guilty. Mrs. Stites said Brogan had boarded at her home for five years, and had left some little time ago. On October 3, at' about 8.30 in the evening, ho knocked nt the door and forced his way into the house. Witness told him he had no right there, and accused then punched her and knocked her down. Accused denied hitting Mrs. Stites, and said she had previously threatened to get him into trouble. The Magistrate: And it looks as if she has done so. '
Accused was fined £3, or seven days' imprisonment.
