POWER AT CHRISTCHURCH.
RECENT SUPPLY SHORTAGE. REBATES FROM GOVERNMENT, [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. A definite assurance that rebates would be made to the electric power authorities concerned, in consideration of the curtailment of the supply during the crisis at Lake Coleridge, was given by the Minister of Public Works, Hon. W. B. Taverner, last evening. The Minister indicated that adjustments would be made to the accounts for the quarter ended September 30 on the basis of power actually consumed. OIL STAND-BY PLANT. FORMER SUBMARINE ENGINES. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] , WELLINGTON. Tuesday. An electric power stand-by plant for Christchurch will bo provided in a Diesel engine designed for German submarines. The site for the plant has yet to be selected. Plant of the same type is already installed at Penrose, Auckland, and experience in running these engines on crude oil has enabled them to be adapted effectively for crude oil consumption. The engines were secured from Germany under the terms of the peace treaty.
