THE FISHING SEASON.
GOOD SPORT OBTAINED. TAUPO AND WAIKATO RIVER. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON. Tuesday. T he trout in Lake Taupo are in a very much improved condition this season, compared with early November last year, and excellent sport has been obtained by anglers. Thero are not many visitors to Taupo yet, but those who have been out fishing have no reason to complain of the sport obtained. 1 rolling from the launch Tainui on the lake on Sunday Mr. D. N. Hay and party, of Matamata, caught 32 fish, the average weight being 61b. Mr. J. E. Cummings and party, of Matamata. caught 26 fish, while trolling from the launch Tamati on the same day. Mrs. Churton and party, of Wairakei. caught 21 trout, while Messrs. P. Grey and E. Dansey, of Rotorua, caught 14 fish before breakfast on tho fly. Dr. T. C. Eraser, of Hamilton, was very successful with the rod near Hulffc Falls during the week-end, when be landed 14 good fish. v Fishing has been exceptionally good in the Waikato River between Arapuni and Horahora. Messrs. H. L. Hawke and A. E. Missen, of Hamilton, secured excellent sport in that locality on Sunday. The fish in the lower reaches of the Waikato River are not yet in as forward a condition as is usual at this time of the year. However, the prospects for tho remainder of the season are very good. The spoon and what is known locally as the "sprat" have been used successfully in fishing between Arapuni nnd Horahora. A Hamilton angler caught the limit at Ngongotaha, near Rotorua, on Sunday. Little success has attended anglers so far in the tributaries of the Waikato, owing to the heavy rains swelling the streams.
