TAKAPUNA GRAMMAR BOUTS. TROWERN-MORGAN CONTEST. The Boy Scout boxing tourney last Friday was quite a good affair, and, while for the most part the work was immaturo, a number of the lads showed promise of being worth further encouragement. The A Squadron Legion of Frontiersmen is. to bo congratulated on the suceoss of the tourney, and the excellent way in which it was conducted. The action of the referee, Mr J. 11. Brown, in stopping the bouts when one contestant was outclassed or receiving undue punishment, is to be commended. This week's amateur tournament will bo the annual championships of Takapuna Grammar School, which are to be held in the Bridgeway Theatre at Milford on Friday evening. This is the school s 6econd annual tourney. During the .winter tho boxing classes, have been well patronised, and tuition has been for tho most part in the hands of Mr. J. D. Baybutt, well known for his interest in boxing affairs. Large entries have been received, and some close contests are expected, especially for the school championship. So far, there are no special trophies for competition, but it is hoped before long old boys, or someone who is interested in tho sport and tho school, will donate suitable trophies. Last year the winners of the various classes did not receive medals oven. Reg. Trowern and Ted Morgan meet at Whangarci to-morrow evening. Morgan has stated his intention of going to America. Tho fact that he has Olympic honours as an amateur will help him to secure his first, fight, but he will have to show up better than he has done professionally in New Zealand. Representatives of Otago and Canterbury will fight for. tho Wairongoa Shield in an inter-provincial tourney to bo held at Christchurch on December 2. The New Zealand Boxing Council has agreed to hand over the Morgan Cup to Bert Lowe, winner of the Dominion welter tille. Strong exception was taken by and the press generally to the action of the controlling body in refusing hitherto to allow tho cup to go out of Wellington. Tho Otago Association has arranged a match between Norman Gillespie, tho undefeated light-weight champion of Australia, and Hector Lockie, tho New Zealand titleholder. Gillespie has met defeat, at the hands of both Johnny Leckie and Tommy Donovan ainco arriving in New Zealand. . . . . Tho Wellington Association is in communication with a representative in America with a view to bringing over some men, and it is to bo congratulated upon its enterprise. . Fred Fraei, tho Auckland welter-weight, in anxious to secure engagements, and is again in training. He was opposed to Jack Jones in his first fight, and Jones proved too experienced for him.
