PHAR LAP BREAKS RECORD. WIN IN THE CRAVEN PLATE. SARGON'S MEMBERS' HANDICAP. (Received October 8, 7.45 p.m.) SYDNEY, Oct. 8. Tho third day's racing of the Australian Jockey Club's Spring Meeting was held to-day at Randwick. Light showers had fallen overnight, but bright sunshine prevailed throughout tho day and produced delightful racing conditions. Tho track was in excellent order. Tho attendance, in keeping with the two previous days, wa3 considerably below normal. Tho choicest feature of tho day's racing was tho splendid exhibition of gallopinn given by tho champion, Phar Lap, in tho Craven Plato. With Nightmarch making tho pace Pliar Lap raced at his girth until heads were turned for homo. Then Phar Lap came nway to win in effortloss style, creating an Australian and New Zealand record.

Sargon (New Zealand), running in the rear of the field in the Members' Handicap in tho early stages, came with a powerful finishing run in tho straight and won easing up by three longths, which proved tho only bright spot. Otherwise, it was a dull day for tho New Zcalanders. Following are the results:— SECOND HURDLE RACE. Sweepstake of £2 each with £GOO added: about 2 miles and 3 furlongs. GROSVENOR, P. H. Passing the stand the first time round Drake camo to grief leaving Paul T and Kinross in cliarso together, followed by St. General, Grosvenor and Bensbun. Along tho back St. General ran to tho front and led into the straight just clear of Paul T., Grosvenor, Kinross and Bensbun. Limerick was tho only other starter. Moving off to an even start Nightmarch smartly ran to tho front from Phar Lap, Donald und Limerick. After racing two furlongs Phar Lap joined Nightmarch and tho paii cleared out from Donald and Limerick. Along tho back they were 20 lengths in front. Passing tho half-milo post Nightmarch had a slight advantage over Phar Lap and maintained his lead. Nightmarch turned for homo first and appeared at that stage likely seriously to extend Phar Lap. but tho latter when called upon came away to win with ease by six lengths in 2m 3s, an Australian and NewZealand record. (Tho previous Australian and New Zealand record for 1J miles was held by Winning Hit. who ran 2.3 1-5 in winning the G. G. Stead Memorial Gold Cup at Riccarton in 1921.) Passing the half milo post Bassanton. with a fine burst of speed, ran to tho front and led into the straight from Royal Baby, Gloriole, Miss Theology and Ranier. Going comfortably Bassanton reached the judge with a length to spare. Timo lm is. SUBURBAN HANDICAP, Sweepstake of £lO each, with £POO added; for three-year-olds and upwards; 1 milo. WAUGOOLA, L. When they settled down Just Gold showed tho way to Waugoola, Venetian Lady, Cathmar, White Fang and Gesto. Racing over the first half mile Just Gold and Venetian Lady were together a length clear of Cathmar. Waugoola and Don Moon. With heads turned for home Just Gold and Waugoola had a slisht advantage over Venetian Lady. Whito Fang and Goshawk. Passing the Leger stand Waugoola assumod command and thereafter was not troubled, winning by three lengths. Time, lm 375. MEMBERS' HANDICAP, Sweepstake of £5 each, with £750 added: for three-year-olds; li miles. SAROON, Dr. E. H. B. Milsom's b c, 8.12 (Bagby) 1 ROGERSON. H. White's b g, 7.11 (Johnstone), 2 AGINCOURT, J. J. Leahy's b f, 7.2 (Hickey) 3 Seventeen started, including Dunraven. Lord Lucius took tho early running from Delwood, Sir Duninald, Dunraven and Algiers. Passing tho seven furlong' post Bridgebow was in command followed by Sir Duninald. Algiers and Dunraven, with Sargon last. Bridgebow led into the straight from Algiers, Dunraven and Rogerson with Sarcon moving forward smartly outside the field. Passing the Leger stand Sargon joined the leaders and maintaining a brilliant run went on to easy victory by three lengths. Time, 2m GJs. SYDNEY HANDICAP, Sweopstftko of £5 each, with £IOOO added; for three-year-olds and upwards; 11 miles. QUICKFIRER. J. Carey's ch h .. .. 1 NEW SWEET, G. H. Passing the Kensington stand Jeyporo and Potent were together from Bosmina, Hustler, Gay Creßt and New Sweet with Quickfirer making a fast run in the rear of the field. Passing the Leger stand Potent, Gay Crest and New Sweet were in line, closely followed by Hustler and Quickfirer. In an exciting run to the post Quickfirer snatched victory by half a neck. Time, 2m 3Hs. CAULFIELD MEETING. NIGHTMARCH EXPECTED TO RUN. (Received October 8, 11.25 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Oct. 8. K. Bracken is returning from Sydney on Thursday. Ho will ride Amounis in tho Caulfield Stakes on Saturday. H. Badger returned to-day. Caulfield Cup scratchings are;— Sir Roy, Weotara, Happy Warrior, First Legion and Loquacious. Income has been scratched for tho Caulfield Guineas. Cragford arrives from Mclbourno on Friday. Nightmarch is expected to run in tho Caulfield Stakes and Cup. Nightmarch and Trueshaft are to como to Mclbourno tomorrow. A former Zealander, Maurice McGrath, trained tho winning double. King Dennis and Pecunia, at Geelong to-day.
