TAKANINI ITEMS.

HORSES FOR WELLINGTON. PROGRESS OF TWO-YEAR-OLDS. A DAUGHTER OF RUAPAPA. E. Pope has nominated Roscric, Royal Artist and Prince of Orange for the Wellington Spring Meeting, but it has not yet been decided whether any of the trio will make the trip. Roashire has made a good recovery from the injury received at Avondale, and it is not expected that his preparation will be further impeded. Rosshire is a big horse, who may make considerable progress between now and Christmas and, although at present ho does not approach classic standard, he may develop useful form in handicaps as he matures. The two-year-old filly by Ruapapa, who joined E. Pope's stable a few weeks ago, has joined the regular team at exercise. She appears to be a tractable youngster who should make rapid progress, but being a fairly lato foal her trainor is unlikely to hurry her. The fifth two-year-old in Pope's stable is a well-grown filly by Catmint, from Serita Thurnham, who bears the name Speedmint. She is fairly forward, having done plenty of exercise in the afternoons before being set going in earnest. Speedmint moves attractively in her work and may turn out as good a proposition as Mark Mint, h full brother with whom Popo previously won races. Amber Link a Good Mover.

The advent of good track conditions has encouraged trainers to Bond their young horses along seriously. C. Morse has several novices who were noticed running along yesterday. The two-year-old Amber Link, a halfsister to the smart Australian performer, Gold Miner, was partnered with Lord Willonyx in a sprint up the straight. She is a splendid mover who has hardened up a good deal during recent weeks and now looks like coming to hand earlier than at first expected. Her present rate of progress suggests possibilities in juvenile events about Christmas time. Catchem and Magic Mint, a pair of novice three-year-olds, were given their first fast work, being allowed to brush up the straight at a solid pace. Catchem is a solid looking chap who put plenty of dash into his work, and Magic Mint, although on the small side, also made a hopeful showing. Morse has been easy on all these novices while the tracks were soft and, in consequence. they are fresh and ready to undergo serious preparations now that better track conditions are available. Mashoor Injures Foreleg. When Mashoor toppled over in the Hunters Steeplechase he ripped tho inside of a foreleg rather badly. His trainer surmises that when falling he did it with one of his hind plates. Hi 3 leg looked bad the day after the races, but it has improved rapidly and, after a course of physio, it is expected to be quite well. Morse anticipates being able to keep Mashoor going after a few days and to be able to carry out his engagement in the Waikito Hunt Cup. When St. Ames fell at Ellerslie he skinned his stifles and was a little sore, but beyond that is quite well and ready to continue bis preparation. His rider- P. Mcllroy, is quite fit again and was out riding work yesterday. White Wings showed up well in both her races at Ellerslie, finishing right up fourth on the final day. The Limond mare is now in good heart and she may not bo long in notching a win for her trainer, W. Goscomb. WAIKATO HUNT CLUB. RACES ON LABOUR DAY. THE LIST OF NOMINATIONS.
