TENNIS ON MOUNT EDEN.
IMPROVING RESERVOIR TOP. MAGNIFICENT VANTAGE POINT. A proposal to convert th« top of the reservoir on Mount Eden into a. playing area, with tennis courts, is to he considered by the Mount Eden Borough Council. The reservoir, which was completed last year to replace the old structure, is covered bv a foot or so of earth, and is now presenting a waving expanse of clover completely concealing the concrete roof. There is room for two, possibly three, tennis courts. The portion ot the reservoir wall, topped by a concrete parapet, which is visible to every pedestrian and motorist using the main drive to the tea kiosk, is considered by many people to be an eyesore in an otherwise attractive beauty spot. The Borough Council has therefore had the base of the wall planted with creeprrs which, it is hoped, will eventually cover the structure. Young pohutukawas have aho been planted in front of the wall, so that in a few years it will be entirely hidden fr<">m view.
By setting a number of garden seats on the reservoir roof, visitors who wish to avoir] the further climb to the summit will be, able to enjoy a more, limited but still very beautiful and expansive view the lower vantage point. The Waitakere Ranges and the, Manukau Heads are well within the range of vision from this point, and 011 the other side the Hunua Ranges and the Razorback. "With the tea kiosk a few fret away, this spot will undoubtedly become more popular as tho improvements materialise. Already a path arid concrete steps give easy access to the reservoir roof from the. main drive. The formation of rockeries and flower borders along the drive has completely covered up the devastation wrought, by the water from tho burst flam. The flower beds are cared for by the Mount Eden Domain caretaker, and will soon be a blaze of summer blooms. Many trees and shrubs have been planted in places where the undergrowth was torn away by the flood waters.
