MUSIC CIRCLE EVENING.
A Brahms evening was held by the music circle of tho Lyceum Club on Monday and proved to bo ono of the most interesting of the many successful gatherings held by tho circle. Miss Maida Hooker, who was responsible for tho programme, commenced with a paper which sketched tho development of music and its several periods. She named the principal exponents of cacli until the time of Brahms; then gave an account of his life. The point of the consistent seriousness of his style was emphasised, and the paper was followed by item 3 illustrating the work of this composer. The programme was follows:—Song3, " Irene Liebe Der Schmitt," by Miss Seth-Smith; violin solo, Two Movements from the Sonata in D Minor, Mr. Iladyn Murray; song, " immcr Leiser," Mis 3 Berta Carr; pianoforte solo, Two Intermezzos, Miss Hooker; song, Lullaby (F. Keel), Miss Sefh-Smithviolin solo, Cavatina (Bohm), Mr. Hadyn Murray; song, Lullaby, Miss McLeod; piano duo, Hungarian Dance, Misses Hooker and Amy Thompson.
