GERALDINE RACES.

TO-DAY'B PROGRAMME.

CUP FIELD OF NINE;

REVIEW OF THE PROSPECTS.

Tho Geraldino Racing Club's meeting will be opened to day, tho programme comprising six racing and two trottiug events. Following are the acceptances, with a review of tho prospcots by our Cliristchurch correspondent:—. FIRST HURDLES HANDICAP. Of £130: 13 fur. st. lb. ; ' st. lb. Troilus . 10 13' All Comment 0 1 Pangolin . ,10 9 Gold Knight 0 0 Haze ... 10 7 Star Stranger Gala Day ~ . 10. & 11. . . 9 0 Gay Fashion 10 0 Haze will carry a rohandicap of 121b. in the Fiist Hurdles, but with tho improvement likely to bo expeotod in him as a result ot his effort at Ashburton ho should bo favourito to-mor-row. Troilus and Pangolin will both benefit by the absenco of Dry Area, who somewhat disorganised tho field on Saturday. Gay Fashion created a good impression at tho Natioual meeting, while Gala Day and Star Strangor 11. will both be bettor for last week's race. An interesting contest is promised and the finish may be confined to HAZE, STAR STRANGER 11. PANGOLIN. OHAPI HACK HANDICAP, r Of £110: 5 fur. st. lb. st. lb. Tracsono ..90 Lord Argosy . 8 0 Tray Bond ..84 Night Dew . 8 0 Bellbird • . . 8' 3 Standard Rose 8 O Crubenmoro . 8 3 Night Cap . 8 0 Pftlada . ..82 Rilvcr Salver. 8 0 'AI Jolsbn ..82 Night Recital 8 0 Pleasant Rose 8 1 Royal Lovo . 8 O Weatherley . 8 0 Sarto . i . 8 0 Some Good . 8 0 Melody . . .80 Tho Geisha .80 Speakeasy ..80 Skysign ..80 Homecoming . 8 0 Princess Thurh- Palmary . . 8 0 ham .. . .80 Tho Ohapi Hack Handicap will probably be run in two divisions. Tracsono, winner at the Otogo Hunt Meeting, appears to. be the best proposition in the first, and Tray Bond will command a short price in the second. GERALDINE CUP, ■ Of £225;' 5i miles. st. lb. st. lb. ..Black Duke . 9 1 Don Jose ..78 Town Major . 811 First Raid ..76 High Court ~ 811 Malmsey ~76 Starshooter . 811 Semper ParaBlaok Mint .84 tuß ... .7 2 The field for the Geraldine Cup must be considered good class. Interest will centre in the first appearance in the south of the Hawke'a Bay Cup winner, High Court, and as he was reported to bo very forward when he left Hastings he will have to be respected. Both Black Duke and Town Major will be having their first spring racing and the latter is expected to be dangerous. Starshooter has to carry a rehandicap of lllb. for hia Ashburton win, and will now be meeting stronger opposition. Black Mint will again be in evidence and may create one of hia customary surprises. Don Jose is faneied in some quarters, owing to his win over six furlongs on Saturday, but he does not appeal in this class, nor does Semper Paratus. On the scale of -weights the issuo should rest between TOWN MAJOR. STARSHOOTER BLACK MINT

Miss Mercia has been galloping well lately, but may' bo in need of a raco, and Evening will also have to bo considered. The placed division may bo ' comprised of DESERT SONG ROYAL GAME EVENING.
