MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE.
QUESTION OF ROUGH PLAY. INCIDENTS LAST SATURDAY. The notification of the, reasons for tho suspension of C. Dufty was conveyed to the Auckland Rugby League last ovoning in tt letter from the Now Zealand League and tho formor body accepted tho decision withont comment,. •, No notion was taken in Tespect to a letter from the Richmond Club, suggesting that the senior grado competition be continued, as the second round was played one series short. Tho extra game would in all probability mako a difference in tho qualifying round of tho Stormont Shield. Several speakers agreed that tho season was prolonged. Mr. R. Short, delegate to the Ponsonby Club, took strong exception to the control of the Riohmond-Ponaonby game last Saturday and contended it was tho roughest on record. He said ho had heard from the players' stand threats of rough play which wero carried into effect., Tho speaker quoted incidents which warranted players being ordered off. ~ Mr. E. J. Redwood said tho whole control rested with tho referee and ho expressed regret on behalf of tho Richmond team. Mr. W. J. Davidson expressed the opinion that at least five players were lucky in not being ordered off. Mr. E. Stallworthy defended tho referee, who. ho claimed, had full control, and exercised excellent judgment in coping with tho incidents under discussion. Mr. C. Adamson said he thought the incidents should not go unnoticed as the junior management committee had almost weekly suspended junior playors for conduct of a far less serious nature. Tho chairman said it was a matter for tho Referees' Association and eventually no action was taken. Tho transfer of C. P. Brimblo from the Newton Club to the Canterbury Loague was approved.
