SERVICE ON COUNCIL ENDS. MR. L. A. JOHNSON RESIGNS. ■ [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] "WHAKGAREI, Friday. The resignation of Mr. L. A. Johnson, owing to pressure of private business, was accepted by the Whangarei County Council at to-day's meeting with great regret. Members spoke of the work done by Mr. Johnson during the eight years he had been a member of the council* Mr. Johnson was elected to the council as representative of the Manaia Riding in May, 1923, and has continued to bo the riding member since that date. In 1923 there was very little metalled roadway in the riding, which is now served by 55 miles of s;ood metalled surface. In addition to this work, many back-blocks clay roads havt< been opened so that the riding is now very well served with roads__
