NEW ZEALAND SQUADRON.
SUCCESSFUL PAST SEASON.
A year of satisfactory progress is revealed by the report of the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron to bo presented at tho 591 h annual meeting on Friday, September 26. The report states that the membership was 497, consisting of 323 town, 95 country, 54 absentee, 16 junior and 9 honorary and life members. A feature of the season was the largo number of entries received for the various events and the keen racing which resulted. Ari innovation in cruising races was the starting on tho Mark Foy system. This had proved so popular that the system would probably be adopted for all cruising races in the future. The report places on record with regret tho death of the following members :—Messrs. E. V. Miller, J. C. Buchanan, Ti. P. R. Foster, A. Sutherland, R. B. D. Hewitt and T. R. Proctor.
The squadron had now completed its 59th year and this season would mark its diamond jubilee. Suitable arrangements would be made during the season to celobrato tho event.
Tho statement of income and expenditure showed a profit of £l3. Tho year just closed had been one of heavy expenditure on useful and necessary improvements to tho clubroora and billiard tables.
The receipts for the year included £1364 from subscriptions, £Bl from entrance fees", £266 from billiards, £1035 from lunchroom receipts, and £69 from race entry fees. The expenditure included £1492 for wages, rent,, rates and insurance; £lO2 for new furniture; £lB4 for prize-money; and £966 for lunchroom expenses.
