Chief-Detectivo Hammond said that when tho offenco was committed the accused was employed in Wanganui by Bissett, who was editing a small publication. Boss had to do all the work and collected the advertisements. He was working on a commission basis and took more than his commission, failing to account foi £4 15s.

Mr. Aekins said that the company went into liquidation and money was owing to tho accused, who was a married man with a child.
