Mr. Jacobus do Wet, a South African visitor to London, has been robbed of £9900 by thrco confidence tricksters using a new method. Tho victim has since identified his plausible acquaintances from the Scotland Yard rogues' gallery. A full description of the men is in the possession of the police. It is alleged that they got into conversation with tho visitor in Regent Street, and after a number of meetings, per.Miaded him to give them £9900 for a betting transaction, on prruni.se of a magnificent return for his money.
Alt tho money was in Bank of Kng land notes—eight £IOOO notes, three £SCO notes and four £IOO notes—and the men so convinced the man of their bona fides that lie allowed them to depart for the purpose of investing his money on a " sure thing."
One of tho tricksters, who is about 50 years ot has a wooden leg, rind has often used crutches. Another of trio men describes himself as a New Zealander, and is aged about 46. Tho third man is aged about 32 Ah tho men were stylishly dressed, their appearanco inspiring confidence.
