At to-day's sitting of the conference of tlie British Medical Association discussions in various sections were continued. Acute differences of opinion developed relative to the advantages of radium and surgery in the treatment of internal rancer. / The opinion was expressed by the nuhthalmic section that sandy Might, or trachoma, is spread by want of personal hygiene and could be completely extirpated without much difficulty. The University of Winnipeg lias conferred the honorary degree of Doctor of Law on 10 delegates to the conference, •fight of whom are British, including Sir James Barrett, of Melbourne. Sir James states that all the documents respecting Dr. Cherry, of Melbourne, and his cancer research work are to be forwarded to the British Medical Journal in London with a request for their sympathetic consideration and publication. Tn an address to the Medical Conference Sir James Barrett declared that the whole of the present hospital system of the world was wrong and shockingly expensive. Sir James explained how skilled nursing attendance had been placed within the reach of the people in the sparsely settled areas of Australia's bush country. He said it had grown from a mere nursing scheme info a great hospital system. It was. a co-operative insurance scheme which provided for inevitable visits to hospitals. Sir James said hospitals should be built on a similar plan.
