MUSIC IN THE HOME.

GRAMOPHONE RECORDS. HINTS FOR THE WEcK. The selection of records to which attention is drawn this week, ranges from a pair of Wurlitzer organ solos to an orchestral- rendering of one of Bach's famous " Brandenburg" concertos. The different items will be found to be of a very diverse character, and may be recommended as being of high quality; There should be little difficulty for individual gramophone owners to find something in accord with their tastes. The outstanding record among the vocal numbers is contributed by the German basso, Alexander Kipnis. The first piece is ' the majestic solo, "Within These Sacred Walls." from Mozart's opera, "The Magic Flute." On the other side is Schubert's " Der Wanderer," one of the most beautiful songs ever penned. Written for the drawing room, it is .1 song which no home should bo without. The Light Opera Company is represented by an attractive selection of gems from the Gilbert and Sullivan comic opera, " Yeomen of the Guard." It is an excellent selection, excellently sung. The last record in this section is sung by Marie Bremner, the dainty musical comedy star, at present in Sydney. The first piece is the charming song, "If I'm Dreaming," from " Sally," and on the other side is " Coo." the popular air from " The Country Girl." Bach's " Brandenburg" concertos are monumental works in the . history of music, and they represent practically the earliest orchestral compositions in the modern repertory. Tho one selected. No. 2, in F. Major, is a particularly good example for the music-lover. It is easy to follow, abounds in spirited melody, and is full of the lightness and dainty grace which is associated with the era of " powder and patches." Though the work is rather longer than the usual, it is worth the small sacrifice which may be necessary in order to acquire it. The other insti-urnental records are of a less pretentious nature. An excellent tone-poem, "By the Blue Hawaiian Waters," is played by the Albert Ketelby Orchestra. The descriptive playing is made very attractive by the playing of Len Fillis, an expert on the steel guitar. A Wurlitzer organ solo, " It Happened in Monterey," gives Jesse Crawford an opportunity of introducing a catchy Spanish waltz tune. On the other side is a tuneful piece, " Song of the Islands."
