CREAM OF LETTUCE.

Two ounces of lettuce, two ounces potato, SOZ/ butter, toast, salt, pepper, and soda. Scrub the potato and steam it. iWash the lettuce, put it into boiling water to which you have added half a teaspoonful of sal) and a wee pinch of carbonate ' of soda. When cooked—in 20 minutes—rub it through a sieve with the potato. Serve, with little bits of toast, after reheating and adding pepper and salt to -taste, and a little butter. Beat all well together in/the saucepan.
