BODY FOUND IN FLAT.
PASSENGER OFF MAUNGANUI. VICTIM OF A ROBBERY. SYDNEY. August 22, The body of Mr. H. Ballantyne, who reported that ho had lost £BOO whilo ho was a third-class passenger on tho Maunganui from Wellington to Sydney this week, was found in tho bathroom of a cily residential flat, with tho throat cut. The body was in a grouching position, leaning over a bath, and a razor lay close by. Mr. 11. Ballantyne, a quarryman, of tho Hawko's Bay district, who was a third-class passenger by the Maunganui on August 19, reported the loss of £BOO on the voyage between Wellington and Sydney. Detectives boarded tho vessel immediately slio entered the harbour and questioned two men, who were detained. Mr. Ballantyne told the detectives that the money represented his life savings. He had also lost two swags. The police aro of opinion that Mr. Ballantyne was drugged before he joined tho Maunganui, as his fellow-passengers said he was in a condition of stupor for three days after he embarked.
