TRIBUTE TO GREAT BATSMAN. HOBBS' TEST MATCH RECORD. British Wireless. RUGBY. August 21. The newspapers to-day express much appreciation of tho unexpected little demonstration which the Australians arranged yesterday evening, when J. B. Hobbs went out to play his last innings in test match cricket. As Hobbs enme to the wicket the Australian players gathered in a ring round him at a few paces distant, and at a signal from their captain, W. M. Woodfull, they took off their caps and held them aloft. At Woodfull's lead they gave him three short staccato cheers. Tho Observer says it was one of the most moving tributes he has ever seen paid on the cricket field. Hobbs' record in test matches is wonderful. He first played in Australia in 1908. He has had 71 innings and been four times not out, with a highest score of 187. His aggregate number of runs is 5656 and his average 54.26.
