DROUGHT IN AMERICA.
ADVICE TO STOCK GROWERS. USE OF GRAIN AS FODDER. (Received August 22, 3.15 p.m.) WASHINGTON. August 21. The chairman of the Federal Farm Hoard, Mr. A. Legge, in commenting on tlie reports that there will bo a total grain shortage of 400.000,000 bushels this year, advised stockmen to meet the condition immediately by feeding stock on a mixed ration, including rye, barley, oats and wheat, in order to avoid any foolish and unnecessary increases in price later in the year. "We want to get the livestock feeders to adjust themselves quickly to conditions such as they have not had to face for 29 years," he said. Mr. Legge spoke contemptuously of the statement made by an alleged "Wall Street farm expert," who objected to feeding wheat to swine, because that would produce Jess lard which, according to Mr. Legge, would be welcome to the packers.
