ANIMALS FOR THE ZOO.
IMPORTATION OPPOSED. THE FEAR OF DISEASES. * Objection to the Auckland City Council being granted a permit to import for zoo purposes such animals as the wildebeeste and springbok lias been raised by the New Zealand Dairy Breeders' Federation. Tho federation points out that South Africa, tho habitat of those animals, is subject to many forms of disease. Fears aro entertained that such diseases as foot-and-mouth disease, rinderpest and East Coast fever might be introduced to New Zealand. Tho federation has written to the Minister of Internal Affairs and tho Minister of Agriculture protesting against any relaxation of the embargo oij the importation of stock from infected countries.
