STATUS AS BOROUGH.
PROPOSAL AT HUNTLY. COMMISSION HEARS EVIDENCE. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HUNTLY, Monday. Tho commission consisting of Mr. !EJ. H. Levien, S.M., Mr. Iv. M. Graham, commissioner of lands, and Mr. W. G. McClintoch, district valuer, Auckland, which was appointed to consider tho proposal that Huntly should bo mado a borough, sat at the Huntly Courthouse to-day. Members of tho Town Board wero present, and Mr. K. S. Caldwell, solicitor, appeared on behalf of tho board. A report was read by Mr. Caldwell. It stated that tho population of the town district at April 1, 1929, was 1750, and tho number of ratopayers on tho roll last September was 1104. Huntly ranked third on the list of town districts in Now Zealand, and it was found that tho administration of tho affairs of the district required a much Jarger boaid. No objection had been lodged against the proposal. Tho commission's report will bo forwarded to tho Minister of Internal Affairs in duo course. I& is expected that the result will bo known very shortly.
