A SPECIAL APPOINTMENT. INTERESTS OF BUSINESS MEN. [BY TELEGRAM. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CHRISTCHURCH, "Wcdnosdny. The president of tho Associated Chambers of Commerce, Mr. C. P. Agar, was to-day asked whether tho advertisement which' was appearing throughout tho Dominion for an organising secretary for the associated chambers indicated any addition to their functions. Mr. Agar said it was public knowledge that at the conference held in. October the executive was empowered to extend its activities, in order to clo 'work previously undertaken lty the 1928 committee:;' It was quite possible that another organisation would "hand over its activities to tho associated chambers in tho near future, and as the latter must be strengthened to cany out these extended functions satisfactorily,' the oxecutive - was embarking on a campaign with this .object. ' • -J Mr. Agar, said he.was unable to'make! a full public statement at.present, as; the. matter was still subjectr;to,'negotiation, but it was recognised that the best.organisation to make representations to the Government, or any other body,, for the professional and commercial- copimunity, was tho Associated Chambers ; of ; Commerce. _ , v ,- This recognition was pleasing to the executive, and it was hoped '-that Wit' the: October conference the. organisation would bo completed, on a basis that'would . enable it to function as the business.' arid professional parliament of New Zealand, and as such to co-operate with and assist the Government. in matters affecting the economic life of the Dominion,.
