AGITATION TO CEASE.

SUNDAY-EXCURSION PROTEST.

"ENEMIES TOO NUMEROUS.'* PRESBYTERIAN ADMISSION. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] • CHRISTCHURCH. Wednesday. The series of protests made for a long timo past by tho Christchurch presbytery against tho running of Sunday excursion trains is to ccasc. The presbytery decided at its meeting to-day that tho " enemy " was too great in number for tho presbytery's protests to be effective. Tho Rev. R. M. Ryburn said it was a gravo matter that the public was being taken away every Sunday from its observance of the Sabbath. However, tho cnomy were in so great a number that any effort tho presbytery could make would go for nothing. It seemed irregular, said another member, that the Government should legislate against public disturbances on Sundays and' then break tho law itself. " Well, wo cannot govern the Government," said the m'odorator, Rev. T. Patcrson, amid applause. It was then decided that the presbytery should withdraw its agitation against tho running of Sunday excursion trains.
