Mrs. Leonard Taylor, who has been the guest of Canon and Mrs. Fancourt, has returned to Feilding. Mrs. W, Sumner, of Ranolf Street, Rotorua, is staying with her sister, Mrs. R. S. Burt, of Kitchener Road, Milford. Mrs. Cnlford Bell lias beon appointed judge of the elocution at tho next Napier Competitions Festival to bo held at Easter, 1931. Miss Hilda M: Rice, who arrived from East Bengal this week, is staying with her sistor. Mrs. Nelson Stedman, of Sandringham, beforo returning to her homo in Napier. , A veteran feminist of Austria is Frau Marianne Hainisch, who as far back as 1860 foresaw that women would drift into business life and advocated having them specially trained in business careers. Frau Hainiscll la now 92 years of age, and, an amazingly speaker, has. kept well abreast of modern times in her mental outlook, Tho Rev. Jasper Cnlder paid a visit to Hclensville recently and addressed the, members of tho Mothers' Union at St. Matthew's Parish Hall. Mrs. 11. Hill Johnson, tho local president, introduced the speaker. About forty members were pre sent and greatly appreciated tho interesting address given on tho work of the City Mission. At tho close of the meeting the members decided to devote ono day a month to work entirely for the mission.

A meeting of the Thames Girls' Club, which took tho form of a social evening, was Iwld in the Druids' Hall, Newton, on Tuesday. The president, Mrs. P. McGregor, was in the chair. A very enjoyable musical programme was contributed to by Mrs. Wright, Miss Jew, Miss Miller, Misses Tippet and Master Nicholls. Community singing, led by Mis. Wright, was much appreciated. The competition prizes were won by Miss Snrithyman, Mrs. Kirkwood, Mrs. Culpitt and Mr. Wheeler. Supper was served by the committee.

An enjoyable five hundred afternoon organised by Mrs. F. C. Patterson and Mis. J. B. Crawford, was held in the pavilion of the Onelmnga Croquet Club on Tuesday. Tho object was to raise funds for improvements to the new greens. At tho closo of tho afternoon Mrs. Patterson presented tho prizes to the winners, Mrs. Temperton and Mrs. J. Y. Warren. Mrs. Patterson woro a frock of navy blue silk and navy and silver hat. Mrs. Crawford was. in a grey bengaline frock and bottlegreen felt hat. Others present were:— Mrs. A- Kenny, Mrs. S. Vella, Mrs. \V. J. Court, Mrs. L. Bray, Mrs. J. Y. Warren, Mrs. A. Brown, Mrs. Trev. George. Mrs. Temperton, Mrs. J. E. Cowell, Mrs. 11. Davy, Miss Hickman and Miss Syms.
