WHALE IN HARBOUR.

EXCITEMENT AT SYDNEY. MONSTER . CHASED IN VAIN. SYDNEY, August 12. An unusual, and in some respects unwelcome, visitor to Sydney Harbour today was a 40ft. humpback whale. It careered from one side to the other, and even disported itself under the new bridge where it spouted water, to the great delight of the bridge builders. Fishormen in six speed launches followed the whale, and attempts were made by them to harpoon it or shoot it, without avail. One launch drew so close to the monster that the craft was damaged and the occupants were thrown off their feet. Zoological officials on the harbour front were greatly interested in .the pursuit and had visions of financial interests in the capture of the whale alive or dead. Eventually, after two hours' excitement, the whale disappeared. Ferry boat passengers then lost their nervousness.
