CONTROL OF ROAD.

STRANGE MISUNDERSTANDING MAINTAINED BY WRONG BOARD. A misundertanding rosulting in the Panmuro Road Board having kept in repair for many years a section of road iinder the control of tho Mount Wellington Road Board, was revealecl in a letter received from tho Panmuro Road Board at a meeting of tho council of .tho Auckland Automobile Association last evening.

Tho letter was a reply to a communication from tho association drawing attention to the bad state of the road through Panmuro between the concrete road and the bridge, and it stated that the Panmuro Board had no control over this piece of road.

It was pointed out in the letter that the Panmuro Board had kept tho • road in repair Until about two years ago, when it applied to have it declared a main highway. It was then found that tho road had been gazetted as under tho control of tho Mount Wellington Road B6ard for the past 40 or 50 years. Tho Highways Board informed tho Panmuro Board that any subsidy in connection with tho road would bo paid to tho Mount Wellington Board. Tho lotter said tho Panmuro Board obtained legal advico to the effect that it would bo illegal to spend any moro money on the road and tho board therefore decided to take no further action.

Mr. M. H. Wynyard, motorists' representative on the Main Highways Board, said he was arranging a conference between tho two bodies. Tho council decided to tako no action.
