AUCKLAND MUSIC WEEK.

OPENING ON SATURDAY. • PROGRAMME OF CONCERTS. 1 The programme for Music Week, which' commences in Auckland on Saturday, contains a large variety of, choral and orchestral concerts to be given by- most of tho musical organisations in the city 4 In all, 21 performances, including community singing, will be given, 16 at the Town Hall and five at the Lewis Eady Hall. Prominent among the entertainment* to be given are a grand miscellaneom concert, on Wednesday, the Grand Concert of tho Royal Auckland Choir, on Monday evening, the Grand Concert of the Auckland Choral Society and Bohemian Orchestra, on Thursday evening, and a Maori coiicert by pupils of St.Stephen's and Queen Victoria Colleges. Performances will also be given by the Auckland Municipal Band, a combined schools choir, tho Auckland Chamber Music Society, the Piano Students' Association and the Leys Institute Orchestras .Variety will be provided by an illustrated lecture on Schumann by Mr. Barry, Coney, and a demonstration of eurhythmies by Miss Beryl Whistler. A piano and violin recital is included in the pro-* gramruo and community singing wili be held during the lunch hour each day. The purpose of Music Wekk is to stimm late interest in music played by "llest* . and blood" musicians, and special attention is being paid to. promoting an api preciation of music among children. r .H>9 introduction of mechanical music has dona much to enablo a larger number of people to enjoy its benefits, but it is thought there is a corresponding danger that it will tend to make listeners rather - than performers. <.
