CONTROL OF TRAFFIC.

ADOPTION OF GROUP SYSTEM. WAIKATO DISTRICT. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON, Tuesday. Tho adoption of a group system of traffic inspection was discussed at the Waikato County Council's meeting to-day, when the District Highways Council wrote offering to subsidise the salary and expenses to tho extent of 50 per cent, of one inspector for tho group comprising the Waikato, Waipa and Otorohanga counties, ■ tho Ngaruawahiij borough, and tho Huutly Town Board district.

The engineer, Air. A. A. Woodward, said that since the Waikato County Council had employed an inspector its revenue from registration fees had increased by £3OO through owners of lorries being compelled to register their vehicles in their proper classes, and through others who had not registered their vehicles being compelled to register. Moreover, the council received 75 per cent, of the fines imposed for breaches of the motor regulations and would receive moro than £2OO from this source.

Tho chairman, Air. T. Hinton, strongly advocated tho acceptance of tho offer. It was decided to give the group system a, trial for a year. Tho appointment of Air. W. E. Nicholson as a second inspector was recommended.
