SUNDAY ISLAND.

Sir, —I have read a very interesting article in Saturday's Herald re island settlement. Now, I, as a member of the Bell family, most earnestly assure intending settlers that they are making a great mistake if they think of going there with their families and putting all they have into the scheme without first going and inspecting the island and its possibilities. Landing on the north-east beach can only be done in the very finest of weather, and even then at great risk.. I am speaking from experience, as I have helped to tako our whaleboats through the surf thera many times, so know what I am talking about. Fishing Rock is over two miles away, over -big rocks, at the* foot of high cliffs, and I am quite sure it would take a tremendous amount of money and labour to make a road over the hills to itThat is the only landing place on the north-east side of the island, and even that can only bo attempted in fine weather. No one can depend on getting produce away ori account of the bad landing. If intending settlers will take my advice they will send two or three reliable persons to report on the island before spending their money on (lie scheme. If they will do that I am sure they will have good reason later on to thank u Belt..
