MURDER IN CAR.
FATE OF CONTRACTOR. BOOTLEGGERS SUSPECTED. NEW YORK. July Mr. Philip Rumbold, aged 60, a wealthy contractor, of Tonawanda, New York, kissed his wife and seven children rri-,1 ,d-hvo yesterday and crossed into (*au;ul:"i. driving alone in his own motorcar, intending to spend a fishing holiday. This morning workmen found Mr. I'utiibold murdered in the seat I >t his car. Hi; hands were tied behind him and his pockets had hecn rilled of about £IOO. His head had been beaten in with a hatchot, which lay on tho seat alongside the body. The police believe the murdered man to have been tho. victim of bootleggers who were recently engaged in a liquor war. They think Mr. Rumbold had no connection with bootlegging, but that he unwittingly walked into a trap prepared tor someone else, and was killed to prevent trouble.
