AMERICAN CRIMINALS.
ARRESTS AT DETROIT. CHICAGO BANDITS KILLED. (Received July 2S. 9.53 p.m.) NEW YORK. July '27. Sixty policemen at Detroit, armed with machine-guns, laid siege tor two hours to tin: hiding place of a S a "g 01 criminals and made important arrests. The men apprehended included '2 suspected of having committed recent murders. The police also seized a. regular munition factory. Two bandits were shot dead by J ony Sodo, proprietor ot a roadhousc in a suburb of Chicago. These jobbers had suddenly entered the dance-hall attached to the establishment. One covered the men and women present with a machine-gun while the other two rubbed them of their cash and jewels. Unobserved by the intruders Sodo went outside to where he kept a sawn-off shotgun for such an emergency. When the robbers left hastily they weie met by a withering broadside and two were killed. The third man escaped wounded and left 11)3 entire booty, which was returned to the dancers. After the excitement had subsided the dance proceeded.
