CENSUS POSTPONEMENT.
MAORI SOCIETY'S PROTEST. A protest against tho decision of the Government to postpone the census has been forwarded to the Prime Minister, the Hon. G. W. Forbes, by tho Akarana Maori Association. Tho association's letter stated that for the purpose of gauging the increases and decreases in the Maori population a strict adherence to the period observed for taking tho census was essential. The expense of tho undertaking as weighed against tho economic and statistical value of tho census did not, in the association's opinion, justify the period being altered.
