HOBSON BAY RESERVE.
SCHEME RECONSIDERED.
QUESTION OF FREEHOLD.
HARBOUR BOARD'S ATTITUDE
The scheme for reclaiming the southwestern portion of Hobson Bay for a recreation reserve has some prospects of fulfilment, following negotiations between the Ilobson Bay Preservation Committee nnd the Auckland Harbour Board. Some limo ago tlio board submitted conditions upon which it was prepared to lease tl)p urea to the City Council for 50 years at a peppercorn rental and to assist in the work of reclamation. The council, how ever, declined to consider the expenditure of any money upon the scheme unless tin? board was prepared to grant the fee simple of the land. The Harbour Board has now informed the committee that the board-in-coinmitteo has decided to consider favourably a proposal that as soon as the full work of reclamation and protection is completed by the City Council the southern or land ward half of the area asked for shall be granted in fee simple to the council, the balance to be held on lease by the board. This scheme is to bo submitted by the committee this afternoon to the Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, and the Parks Committee of tho City Council and it is hoped that as a result tho whole matter will be reopened.
