NEW SOUTH WALES SEAT.
GOVERNMENT WIN LIKELY.
(Received July 27, E. 55 p.m.) SYDNEY. July 27.
A by-election was held yesterday for the Lane Cove seat in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly, rendered, vacant by the death last month of Mr. B. C. Walmsley (Nationalist), tho former member.
The first count of the votes polled give* the following result: — Fitzsimmons (Nationalist) . . 5642 F. Hunt (Labour) . . .. 4032 F. Dunn (Australian Party) . . 3344 The return of Mr. Fitzsimmons, the Government candidate, seems to be certain, as he only requires 23 per cent, of Mr. Dunn's percentages to win. In that case the Ministry will regard the result as the electors' approval of its economy, policy.
